A Message From Troy Davis
So some have been wondering why as of yet or rather during the height of everything of the Troy Davis situation I stayed silent and did not post anything. It wasn’t because I didn’t have anything to say or that I was ignorant of things going on. But I wanted to sit back and see what others might have to say and really take everything in. While like many others I find the execution of Troy Davis to be sad, as when any life is taken whether by our judicial system or by another person on the street. None of us know the full story or the absolute truth of the situation. But I will say that based on the information that has come out over the years it would be hard for me stand by the sentence of “Death” that was given to Troy Davis. So this is a sad moment because regardless of guilt or innocence a man has lost his life and neither the death of Troy Davis or Officer MacPhail, will make hearts any more healed The bigger problem with this situation is that to many of the same people shouting out in protest now are the same ones who on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November do not vote. To many times in situations like this there are always those who feel appalled or victimized by the chain of events, even though they are just recently finding out the “facts” of the case. Recently put out there by Roland Martin, is there are 600,000 unregistered African Americans in the state of Georgia. That is more than enough people to sway a Gubernatorial and in certain counties or cities, state and federally elected officials. So the problem isn’t always the system as some would have you believe but the way we chose to use the system. I would like to say to all those who also voiced their opinion on this matter. That you are not wrong for having done so, but you are wrong if you have done so knowingly never voted before or spoken out against an injustice prior to this one. There is a greater injustice being done to everyone if you are one who is just speaking out without knowing any or all the facts and are not acting or working to solve the problem.
“Getting At My Race” The beginning of a series of pieces wishing to discuss the ill’s within the African American community. Each piece will address a different ill but won’t just discuss the issue, but will attempt to pose solutions to the problems. “It truly angers me at the current overall state of the African American community in this day and age. Yes, there are moments that we can look at and rejoice and be proud of as a community. As an African American I take pride in those moments too. Moments where you see African American students graduating college; both men and women, African American CEO’s or Executives, or even having an African American President.”
